TOURISM AND ACTIVITIES ONDRES

AN UNFORGETTABLE STAY THROUGH THE MOORS AND THE BASQUE COUNTRY
BETWEEN OCEAN, FOREST, CULTURE AND MOUNTAINS

WHAT TO DO AROUND ONDRES?

ONDRES

Located right at the beach, the Oceana and Marinella villas are the only houses in a micro-neighbourhood consisting of a glacier, a snack bar, a pizzeria, a bodega restaurant and a very popular fish and seafood restaurant. Definitively enough to give a gourmet touch to your stay. In season, the restaurants sometime provide musical entertainment, but no annoyance at night.
Just in front lie several kilometres of beach and dunes bordering the forest. A real piece of paradise for anyone that enjoys sunbathing, swimming, hiking, fishing or surfing. Ocean swimming and surfing courses are available, as well as equipment rental.
Ondres is first and foremost a natural holiday destination, but also a small and lively seaside resort. In summer, a free shuttle bus will take you the town center and its shops, Sunday market and other activity hubs. Keen cyclists can rent bicycles and enjoy dedicated paths following the coast for miles on end through the pine forest. A riding school offers trips through the forest on horseback. Others can enjoy the city stadium, petanque court, skatepark, mini-golf, pelote and tennis courts.

THE LANDES COAST

Imagine a sandy beach that stretches for over 100km. Voilà les Landes, and in other words, it’s not too difficult to find a quiet place to lay your towel. Among the small cities that dot the coast, Hossegor serves as the surf and golf capital, but the architecture of the villas and casino is also worth mentioning. Just next door, Capbreton offers pleasant walks along the harbour and the ocean.
Inland, the Marais d’Orx nature reserve is a large classified area with a remarkable interpretation trail.

BAYONNE & THE BASQUE COUNTRY

Capital of the northern Basque Country, Bayonne impresses by its typical architecture, a gothic cathedral and houses with colourful shutters on either side of the Nive. A stroll through the historic districts allows for breaks in the many shops, chocolate factories, cafés and fine restaurants.
To discover the charm of the Basque coast, head for Anglet and its 11 sandy beaches, Biarritz and its many tourism sites (Rocher de la Vierge, Port des Pêcheurs, Aquarium, Cité de l’Océan), the typical port of Guéthary, or the bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
For a change in scenery you can visit typical villages such as Espelette or Ainoha, climb accessible peaks such as La Rhune or Jaïzkibel, and cross the border with Spain in under 30 minutes. Olé!
